Why does the manager assign tasks?

This is the question I asked in my first “Basics of Management” class for secondary school students. In response, I expected to hear something about meeting targets, common objectives or delegation.

How would you respond?

However, one 10th grade boy answered perfectly:

“A leader gives tasks because he believes in people!” Beautiful!

That’s the kind of team of future leaders I’d like to work in, where the leader empowers not because they can’t fit in or need to meet target numbers – but because they deeply believe in other people.
