We always see the things we look for and believe are there. A good example is when the outgoing manager gives the new manager an overview of his or her team’s perspective and the new manager starts to assess people and seek validation for this. However, people are still constantly changing with new information and new insights. We evolve through the constant refinement and adoption of archetypes. Understanding one or another stage in our own and others’ lives helps to reduce conflicts caused by confusion, increase mutual empathy and thus improve the performance of the whole team.
In Director, I wrote about 12 archetypes of human nature in the context of work.
