Since today is September 1, it’s very fitting to revisit the podcast withschool principal Sirje Kautsaarthat was released in June. That’s because I began the podcast recording with Sirje by asking exactly that question: how can we possibly know what skills we’ll need in the future job market?
Sirje’s answer was wonderfully simple: the best thing we can do is to foster humanity, communication skills, and a deep sense of self-reliance.
That’s exactly right—at work, at home, and at school.
I have always believed that we cannot shape or develop a person in any way, but we can remove obstacles from their path—precisely so that a person’s truly human and profound nature can emerge. Nature is wise enough to distribute our skills, talents, and virtues in a way that is good for the whole, and if we step aside and support that person’s own essential “soul code,” and the emergence of their “genius,” everything will be fine.
In that episode of the podcast, we also talked about freedom, competitiveness, and much more—all of which are topics at school, as well as at work, where people who went to school together all end up. The topic of comparison and competition was particularly fascinating. So it’s definitely worth a listen.
