This morning, as we sailed to the island, I reflected deeply on how people from different backgrounds come together to collectively experience something.
Just like in an organization, where people of diverse backgrounds meet every day to achieve something together. This boat ride reminded me that organizations are like boatsโthey must move in harmony, although everyone on board may perceive the journey differently.
An important part of organizational life is the freedom to chooseโif the environment does not fit or if working together becomes uncomfortable, everyone has the right to leave at the next port, in the case of the boat analogy. This freedom of choice ensures that people do not remain in situations that no longer satisfy them or might even harm them.
How does your organization ensure that everyone can contribute equally and that collectively you move towards the same goal? Do you feel that your contribution is valued and that you have the opportunity to leave if the situation requires it?
