In December 2020, I wrote down my so-called ideal life phrases in a notebook, because I had heard that what you tell yourself and where you put your energy, it will happen. It sounded absurd to a rational person, but I thought I’d give it a try. After all, there was nothing to lose, because there was no satisfaction in life anyway. I was supposed to earn money, and the opposite (money earns me) sounded like a nice idea, but far away. I wrote down the things that at the time were totally dream level.
Just 8 months later, it had all materialised! Today, looking through my old notes, I found these sentences again and I have to admit that life is still exactly like that. This is how I have shaped my life, which at the time seemed a distant dream somewhere in the distant future.
At the end of 2020, I wrote to myself:
“My life goes on with ease and joy. I am healthy, fit, full of harmony, peace and happiness. I attract inspiring people to me and provide them with value-creating inspiration. I live in abundance and as of today, money serves me. I am surrounded by people who help each other to make dreams come true. I am aware of my true worth. Life is great! I enjoy a self-directed flexible lifestyle.”
On the way to rethinking your life, there is inevitably a dark night of the soul, where you want to be alone, don’t want to communicate and want to be cocooned, but don’t want to be. You realise that something is happening to you, some old patterns and fears seem so comfortable to return to (life does offer options), but if you go through the inner turmoil and stay true to yourself even if you don’t know what’s out there. Just trust. No matter how much your knees shake. Then where you end up is worth the journey! In this period, those who have already been there or are at least half a step ahead will be particularly supportive. Whether it’s free friends or paid friends like my therapist. And, of course, it still is today. Therapy is a normal part of everyday life, as is exercising your physical body.
Niiet…. The holidays are a great time to write down what you want your life to look like, and make it happen in a wonderful way. Can it be measured by science? Maybe it can, maybe it can’t, but it doesn’t matter – as long as it works.
I believe it works through the fact that we think in terms of images, and when we imagine our lives in the present tense in this way, we imagine that state of being in our minds, and it helps us to pay attention to the things that fit with that image, and so we bring them more and more boldly into our own lives.
When setting the future tense, it is important to keep in mind writing in the present tense. It also makes sense to write out your new future self in terms of the following aspects: behavioural, relationships, emotional state, intellectual level or world of thoughts, physical aspect of life and other aspects that you see in your ideal life.
If you need support on this, I’m here for you.
