I often receive the question: “How to deal with difficult people and lead challenging conversations?” Typically, leaders already have the answers within them, but the most critical question to consider in planning the next steps, especially for leaders facing challenges with a team member, is: “Do I believe in this person?”

In moments of challenge, it’s vital to remember: it’s not the person who’s problematic, but the behavior. As leaders, our role extends beyond addressing issues, it’s about fostering belief.

Choosing to believe in someone isn’t blind trust, it’s a strategic investment in their potential. Because belief in your team can transform challenges into opportunities.

And if you have lost belief in the person, there is no point in continuing together anymore. Itโ€™s better for both of you to be surrounded by people who believe in you. Itโ€™s entirely okay to embark on different journeys, but itโ€™s not okay not to be truly honest with your intentions.
